"CORRIDOR # 8" BY BORIS DESPODOV WON EMERGING ARTIST AWARD AT "HOT DOCS" FESTIVAL IN TORONTO, CANADA The new HBO Documentary Films Emerging Artist Award was presented to Boris Despodov for "CORRIDOR # 8" (producer: Martichka Bozhilova; Bulgaria), an absurdly funny and fascinating portrait of a misguided infrastructure project in southeastern Europe. The jury said of the film: “For the Emerging Artist Award, our jury must have set a new record for consensus - it was pretty much immediate. We agreed right away. This film is gorgeous, hilarious, enlightening and irresistible.”

"CORRIDOR #8" WON THE PRIZE OF THE ECUMENCIAL JURY AT BERLINALE 2008
The prize for a film from the Forum went to the Bulgarian documentary "Corridor #8" by Boris Despodov, producer – Martichka Bozhilova. The Jury stated: "This film is an honest and open look at an area of the world suffering from a lack of connection. This film is really about hope, healing, and man’s shared humanity. In the Balkan countries of Macedonia, Albania, and Bulgaria, echoing the footsteps taken by the disciple Paul so long ago, the film asks, “Why do these countries have no means of common transportation?” As borders, walls, and fences dominate man-made politics, this is an important reminder of Christian responsibility and human progress."

"A LETTER TO SANTA CLAUS" WON THE SPECIAL PRIZE OF THE JURY AT THE III OPEN SANKT-PETERBURG CHILDREN FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
The Bulgarian TV film "A Letter to Santa Claus" – director Ivaiylo Djambazov, screenplay Ralitsa Fillipova, won the Special Prize of the Jury at the III Open Sankt-Peterburg Children Festival of the Arts in the beginning of November 2007 for best film about parents' and children's relations. President of the Jury was the well known Russian actress Ludmila Chursina.
THE BULGARIAN FILM "A COLD COKE IN THE DAYS OF THE COLD WAR" WON THE MAIN AWARD "BULGARIAN EUROPE 2007"
At the Media Festival BULGARIAN EUROPE 2007 in Russe the Bulgarian documentary film "A Cold Coke in the Days of the Cold War" by Irina Nedeva, Evgenia Atanasova and Damyan Petrov won the Main Award "Bulgarian Europe 2007".
BFI & GRIERSON TRUST AWARD PRIZE TO BULGARIAN FILM "MOSQUITO PROBLEMS AND OTHER STORIES"
The Times BFI London Film Festival Grierson Award was presented on 22 October 2007, by the BFI and the Grierson Trust to "The Mosquito Problem & Other Stories" by Andrey Paounov, producer Martichka Bozhilova (AGITPROP) for best documentary in the Festival. This is the first Bulgarian film that wins Grierson Award.
BULGARIAN FILM AWARDED AT THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL INDEPENDENT FILM AND VIDEO FESTIVAL 2007
The Bulgarian film "A Movie Buff at the Turn of the Century" by Peter Odadjiev won the International Film Award for Best International Documentary at the New York International Independent film and Video Festival. This is the first Bulgarian film awarded at the New York International Independent film and Video Festival.
THE BULGARIAN FESTURE FILM "INVESTIGATION" WON THE MAIN PRIZE FOR BEST FILM IN COTTBUS 2007, GERMANY
The Bulgarian feature film "Investigation" by Iglika Trifonova won the Main prize for Best film at the Film Festival of East European cinema in Cottbus 2007, Germany.
The International Jury awarded "Investigation" in a competition between feature films from Serbia, Russia, Hungary, Poland, Kyrgyzstan, Czech Republic, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Georgia.

At the Eurasian Television competition of social programs and films for teenagers and youth "I am a person" the Bulgarian TV serial "The Lilly's Vacation" by the director Ivanka Grubcheva, won the first award for a feature film. The film is a co-production between the Bulgarian National Television and the Foundation "Brothers Mormarevi".
THE BULGARIAN FILM "DIVORCE ALBANIAN STYLE" ("RAZVOD PO ALBANSKI") IS NOMINATED FOR THE EUROPEAN FILM ACADEMY DOCUMENTARY 2007 – PRIX ARTE
The European Film Academy announced the nominations for the European Film Academy Documentary 2007 - PRIX ARTE. "WARDEN OF THE DEAD" – THE BULGARIAN NOMINATION FOR "OSCAR" FOR BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM 2007
At its first meeting the newly formed National Film Council put to the vote the following Bulgarian feature films for the Bulgarian nomination for "Oscar" 2007: "Warden of the Dead" by Ilian Simeonov; "Christmas Tree Upside Down" by Ivan Cherkelov and Vassil Zhivkov; "Investigation" by Iglika Triffonova, "Time for Women" by Ilia Kostov and "Sparrows in October" by Anry Kulev.
"Warden of the Dead" was chosen by the National Film Council for the Bulgarian nomination for "Oscar" for best foreign language film 2007.
"INVESTIGATION" WON THE SOFIA MUNICIPALITY AWARD FOR FILM ART
The Sofia Municipality Award for achievements in Bulgarian culture and Art for the period July 2006 - July 2007 were rewarded by the Mayor of Sofia Boiko Borisov on the Day of Sofia. The Award for Film Art won the feature film "INVESTIGATION" by the director Iglika Triffonova.

The Bulgarian film "The mosquito problem and other stories" won HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD as best film taking part in the competition programme documentaries at the 13th edition of Sarajevo Film Festival. Till now "The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories" by Andrey Paounov, producer Martichka Bozhilova (AGITPROP), took part in 5 film festivals and won 5 awards.
"THE MOSQUITO PROBLEM AND OTHER STORIES" WITH 2 NEW AWARDS IN JULY 2007
After the Special Mention at the 42nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival the Bulgarian documentary film "The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories" by Andrey Paounov, producer Martichka Bozhilova (AGITPROP), won 2 more awards during the last weekend of July 2007. At the 9th edition of Motovun Film Festival in Croatia the film won the award "FromAtoA" - an attempt to help the films made in the region "from Albania to Austria" to break through their national boundaries and find their audience in neighboring countries. This award is a reaction to the current state in which films rarely leave their home countries. With the financial donation it aims to stimulate their distribution. At the same time "The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories" took part in the competition at BRITDOC in Oxford and won another Special Prize.

The Jury for the documentary films in competition at the 42nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival awarded with Special Mention for film over 30 minutes long the Bulgarian documentary "The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories".
Andrey Paounov is the director of this film. The screenplay is written by Lilia Topouzova and Andrey Paounov. Boris Missirkov and Georgi Bogdanov are the directors of photography. Producer: Martichka Bozhilova.

"A PARK FOR DANCING BEARS" WON GRAND PRIX AT ECOMIR-2007
At the International Film Festival ECOMIR-2007 in Minsk, Belarus, the Bulgarian documentary "A Park for Dancing Bears" by Eldora Traikova won the GRAND PRIX.
This biggest prize at the Festival is awarded by the international jury "for a highly professional analysis of the issue "The Problems of the Relationship between Man and Nature" through cinema and television".

WON THE AT MEDFILM FESTIVAL IN ROME 2006
At the 12th edition of MedFilmfestival in Rome the Bulgarian feature film "STOLEN EYES" by Radoslav Spasov won the EURIMAGES Award. This is the 9 international award for the film that already was shown at 35 festivals and that took part in 14 competitions. As stated by the special jury: "The film combines the beautiful aesthetics of a long tradition cinematography, the simpleness of the plot and tragically topical contents of today’s world: the relationship between two different identities, the Christian-orthodox and the Muslim. Facing this clash, the author finds a solution: surrounded by destruction and isolation, the two main characters do not meet in the name of a saving love, but with the strong will of those who cannot deny reality. The two main actors, being young, show an incredible artistic maturity and the ability of varying their acting from drama to comedy passing through the vanguard theatre."

"STOLEN EYES" WON THE PRIZE OF THE MONACO RED CROSS 2006
At the 46th edition of the MONTE CARLO TELEVISION FESTIVAL the feature film "Stolen Eyes" by Radoslav Spasov, produced by the Bulgarian National Television took The Prize of the Monaco Red Cross. This Prize seeks to recognize a News program that demonstrates at least one of the ideals of the Red Cross: humanity, impartiality, independence, neutrality, charity, unity, universality.
"BLACK ON WHITE" WON IN ANECCY 2006 THE UNICEF AWARD
The Bulgarian animation film by the young Bulgarian director and animator Andrey Tsvetkov won the UNICEF award in Aneccy 2006 in the competition with 279 films from 5 to 10th of June 2006. Nothing is only black and white – the film is a protest against the society rejecting differences.
VÁCLAV HAVEL PRESENTED HIS AWARD TO MILENA KANEVA AT THE INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS FESTIVAL "ONE WORLD"2006
Two films were screened at the opening ceremony of the International Human Rights Festival "One World". Václav Havel was there in person to present his Special award, and a commemorative plaque, to Milena Kaneva, the Bulgarian director of "Total Denial". Havel, the first Czechoslovak president after November 1989, chose the film from a selection of documentaries put forward by a committee consisting of Helena Dluhošová, Martin Vidlák and Šimon Pánek.

THREE BULGARIAN WINNERS AT THE 17 TRIESTE FILM FESTIVAL, 2006
The International Jury of Feature films in competition, composed by Andrea Fornari (Italy), Judit Pintйr (Hungary) and Jelka Stergel (Slovenia), assigned a Special Mention to "Life with Sofia" by Svetla Tsotsorkova, Bulgaria, 2004, "for the ability of both the director and the actors of bringing the characters and their emotions very close to the audience". The CEI (Central European Initiative) Award of 2,500 Euro went to "Lady Zee" by Georgi Djulgerov, Bulgaria, 2005, running for the Feature Film Competition, "for portraying contemporary life in Bulgaria, at the same time realistically and poetically". The AUDIENCE PRIZE for Best Documentary Film won "Georgy and the Butterflies" by Andrej Paounov, Bulgaria.

"THREE SISTERS AND ANDREY" WON THE 2006 PROMOTIONAL PRIZE The 2006 Promotional Prize for Joint Film Productions by young German and Eastern / South Eastern European filmmakers in the categories animated film, documentary, and short film won the project "Three sisters and Andrey" – screenplay: Andrey Paounov, director: Boris Despodov, producers: Sebastina Leutner (Deutschland) and Ivan Pavlov (Bulgaria). The award ceremony took place on 3th of December in Shtutgard.
"THE KISS" AWARDED WITH ASOLO 2005
The Bulgarian film "The Kiss" by Toma Waszarow won its second international recognition. At the XXIV AsoloArtFilmFestival 2005 (www.asolofilmfestival.it) "The Kiss" won the award ASOLO in the section "The Challenges of Erotism".

"LADY ZEE" BY GEORGI DJULGEROV WON THE AUDIENCE AWARD FOR BEST FILM AT THE NEW MONTREAL FILMFEST 2005 At the first edition of The New Montreal FilmFest (September 18 to 26, 2005) that showed 170 film titles from 40 countries the new Bulgarian film "Lady Zee" by Georgi Djulgerov was presented in the program Planet Earth under the special event Artists deserving of our admiration and respect by Toyota Canada. The film won the Audience Award for Best film.

"Stolen Eyes" won the Prix "The Bitter Cup" awarded by the Faculty of Journalism at the Sofia University.
Georgy DJulgerov's new film "Lady Zee" won the BEST FILM Award at Sarajevo Film Festival 2005
At the same festival in Sarajevo "Lady Zee" won also the C.I.C.A.E. AWARD by the International Confederation of European Art Cinemas.

DEBORAH YOUNG, an American writer and journalist based in Rome who started reviewing films for Variety in 1980 published her article on this year Sarajevo' s winner LADY ZEE on September 5, 2005. In it she emphasized that "though it sometimes seems Euro screens are saturated with tales of poor, exploited girls from Eastern Europe, Georgi Djulgerov's "Lady Zee" has something extra going for it" As well as that "this Bulgarian entry is a sure-fire festival contender" and that "Djulgerov, a veteran iconoclast of Bulgarian cinema, has a light, often playful touch with his largely non-pro cast".

BULGARIAN FILMS AT THE KARLOVY VARY FESTIVAL 2005
Three Bulgarian films were shown at the 40 International film festival in Karlovy Vary (1 - 10 of June 2005). Radoslav Spasov's "Stolen Eyes" in the competition East of the West; the Andrey Paounov's documentary "Georgy and the Butterfies" in the documentary competition and Nadezhda Koseva's story "The Ritual" in the international production "Lost and Found - Six Glances of a Generation" in the program Another View.
VESSELA KAZAKOVA WON THE BEST ACTRESS AWARD FOR "STOLEN EYES" AT THE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL IN MOSCOW 2005
The Jury of the Moscow International Film Festival awarded the young Bulgarian actress Vessela Kazakova for the film "Stolen Eyes" with the Prize Silver George for the Best Actress. Director, author of the screen play and cameraman of the film is Radoslav Spasov.
The Prize Silver George for the Best Actor went to Hamid Farahnejad for the Iranian film "Left Foot Forward on the Beat", director Kazem Ma'asoumi.
The Grand Prix "Golden George" went to the Russian film "Dreaming of space", director Alexey Uchitel.
MORE FESTIVALS AND AWARDS FOR "GEORGY AND THE BUTTERFLIES" 2005
At the International film festival in Krakow, Poland, the Andrey Paounov's documentary "Georgy and the Butterflies" won FCC award of the INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF FILM SOCIETIES. The Jury underlined that "the positive can be found in life if we look for it". The film would be shown in the documentary competition at Karlovy Vary festival. It is already selected for the film festivals in Sarajevo, Johannesburg, Yerevan.

Rumyana Petkova's "The Other Possible Life of Ours" won Silver Vityaz award.

Mihail Venkov's tv film "One Leg kills the Evil" won a diploma.

BERLINALE - Forum 2005 opens with "Lost and Found", a film with Bulgarian art contribution The opening film of the 35th International Forum of New Cinema has been selected: The German production "Lost and Found" unites stories by young directing talents from six Central and Eastern European countries. The international contributions to this compilation of short films were produced in Estonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Hungary, and Serbia-Montenegro and post-produced in Germany. The countries were chosen as project partners on the basis of their rich film culture. At the same time, cooperating on this film project contributes to creating lasting new infrastructures, especially for up-and-coming artists. The four short films, one documentary, and one animated film reflect a new cinematic self-understanding on the part of the young generation of filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe. The directors include five participants from the Berlinale Talent Campus 2004, as well as a winner of the Golden Bear (Stefan Arsenijevic for the short film (A)Torzija, 2003). The world premiere of Lost and Found will take place on February 11, 2005 in the Delphi movie theater. The stories in Lost and Found are tied together by the Estonian animated film Gene-Ration by Mait Laas, which relates the fantastic journey of a matchstick man who helps give birth to a new generation. – In The Ritual, by Nadejda Koseva (Bulgaria), a wedding party waits in suspense for the bride and groom. – A young girl goes to the capital for the first time and has to master a difficult situation (Turkey-Girl, Cristian Mungiu, Romania). – Two children in the same city are born on the same day, but have no possibility of getting to know each other (Birthday, Jasmila Zbanich, Bosnia-Herzegovina). – A suicide counselor finds himself in an existential conflict when he attempts to master his own family situation after the death of his mother (Shortlasting Silence, Kornel Mundruczo, Hungary). – In Stefan Arsenijevic’s Fabulous Vera (Serbia-Montenegro) a streetcar conductor exceeds her authority and finally finds happiness. The 17 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (Netherlands) 2004At the biggest and weightiest in the world (equal to Cannes for documentary) International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam the Silver Wolf award for the best short documentary, went to GEORGY AND THE BUTTERFLIES by Andrey Paounov (Bulgaria, 2004). The Silver Wolf was made available by the Netherlands Programme Service (NPS) and consists of €10,000 and a stamp. The film portraits the independent and unusual director of a Psychiatric Clinic Georgi Lulchev. The film had a screening for festivals' directors at the International Sofia Film Fest 2004. It's official premiere is planned in Bulgaria at the 9th International Sofia Film Fest 2005. The 53rd International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg 2004 (Germany) Zornitsa Sophia's film debut "MILA FROM MARS" won two awards: the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Award (second prize for best director in the international competition) and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. The premiere of "Mila from Mars" took part in the international competition at the 8th International Sofia Film Fest 2004 and won the KODAK Award for best Bulgarian feature film. "Mila from Mars" after that won the biggest award and a award for the actor's ensemble at the International Film festival in Sarajevo; won 5 national awards at the Festival in Varna "Zlatna Roza' 2004"; was nominated as best Bulgarian film for "Oscar"; took part in 5 more international film festivals and is invited to other 15 and more. The 45 International Film Festival Thessalonica (Greece) 2004 The new project for a feature film by the screenwriter and director Svetoslav Ovcharov and the producer Assen Vladimirov - "THE ONLY LOVE STORY NOT WRITTEN ABOUT BY HENINGWAY" won one of the Balkan Fund for film projects four prizes and 10 000 Euro grand for the development of the screenplay.
